Pocono Mountain Resort
The Poconos Mountains represent some of the most beautiful scenery in the entire United States and is home to luxurious vacation resorts as well. Situated in the eastern part of Pennsylvania, the Poconos are neighbors to New York, Philadelphia, and Hartford. From the earliest days of the Eastern states, generations of American families have been vacationing in lodges and villas of the most exclusive Pocono Mountain Resort getaways. History of Pennsylvania's Playground The high elevation of the Poconos Mountains attracted thousands of residents of New York and Philadelphia to escape the heat and dirt of the crowded cities in summer even before the 1900s. By 1927, the region was encouraging vacationers to visit a Pocono Mountain Resort as the tourism and marketing grew in the area. At the same time, Pennsylvania's Power and Light Company were also attracted to the Pocono Mountain resort district and dammed the creek to make Lake Wallenpaupack. A few years later, the Pocono Mountain resort business began to thrive on what eventually made them the Honeymoon Capitol of the World. Young GI's, during World War II, took their leave at a Pocono Mountain resort before they sailed overseas and invited their girlfriends and families. Once they returned they would revisit the happy land of their romance to get married and honeymoon as well. That tradition has carried through to today as the hills resound with the ringing of wedding bells. Vacation All Year Round at a Pocono Mountain Resort With the opening of the commercial ski areas in 1946, the Poconos Mountains also began to be a popular ski destination attracting even more year round vacationers to the Pocono Mountain resort of their choice. In spring, summer, winter, or fall, all the amenities of a Pocono Mountain resort are available to weary vacationers ready to get away from the business of their life. The mountains, lakes, rivers, and waterfalls provide plenty of diversion for any visitor.
